Social Media Marketing

A Case Study

What we have learned about Social Media Marketing is simple. It's just like dating! That means you can't come on too strong. You have to look for opportunity to be helpful. You have to listen before you act. That is the only way to be relevant (other than luck). That is classic Social Media Marketing.

What we've been doing for this client is creating awareness at a local level. The client is embedded in a number of Golf Clubs across the country. While these are world-class facilities, the majority of clientele are from the surrounding communities. The other important consideration is that it takes money to play this sport, especially at the level where one could benefit from a professional fitting!

One of the key websites for creating local awareness is Zillow. This is a social media website focused on real estate. What made it a great candidate is that:

  1. nobody was using it the way we envisioned (opportunity)
  2. it allowed 3rd party comments
  3. it's national in scope
We began by identifying the surrounding zip codes for each of our affiliated golf courses. Then, we identified homes worth in excess of $600,000. For each home we would add a comment like:

This home is a 7 Iron away from one of the best golf courses in the region. It's also home to [Our Client], one of the top custom golf fitters in the United States!

This comment is now a part of the permanent record for that home, and an ongoing source of qualified traffic. We even got recognition from Zillow for our participation in adding meaningful content!
